Final Day in Isiolo     22 July, 2025, 08:18 am
We finished the medical camp today in the village of Kambi Sheik in Mairitano. Things started off very slowly, but eventually, people started coming until there was a fairly steady flow. There were some different medical needs that the doctors addressed today. Some things were immediately treatable, while others will require more advanced or prolonged treatments than what we could offer today. But, they were counseled on what the medical issues were and what needed to be done to help. One set of parents was grateful just to have a doctor talk to them and tell them what was going on with their child.
At the end of the clinic, a teacher came with several orphaned children that he was caring for. Most of the kids had medical complications that could not be immediately remedied They were obviously children that would be on the fringes of society, but they were eager to come over and try to talk to us, or just look at us. When we gave them a sticker and a pencil, they were very appreciative, and each one thanked us in English.
It was a good day, and a strong end to the medical camp in Isiolo. We treated 246 people today, bringing the 5-day total to 1367. Approximately 30 people received reading glasses today. We will head back to Nairobi in the morning. Thank you for remember us in your prayers. We are leaving the team here encouraged and excited to continue their work.

Day 3 in Isiolo     28 June, 2025, 02:56 pm
The third day of Medical Camp ended with 281 people being treated, and 31 people receiving reading glasses. This village was close to the paved road, but still, the people walked to the clinic- some from quite a distance. One young girl that came told me that she lives near the forest, and her father has 3 ostriches that live at her home in the village. She was proud of the fact that they have these ostriches and wanted me to come to the forest to see them.
When we are at the clinic, we don’t have just random people there to help with registering people and translating. The people helping are there for a specific reason- they are part of the church-planting team who live there and will continue the work long after we leave. The contacts they made with people today will allow them to go into other villages and begin to share why we held a free medical camp for them. As the relationships develop, discussion will turn to the Bible and eventually the people will be introduced to Jesus. Then new churches will be planted, and the cycle will continue.
The team had a good day today. In addition to the attention that everyone who came to the clinic received from the doctors, nurses, and other volunteers, several people with wounds were helped, others were treated by a physical therapist. Also, it never gets old to see the smiling faces of people who can finally see better with the glasses they received. Kids were given stickers, pencils, and wooden whistles. The local pastor was given a soccer ball to use in ministry with the kids.

Shambani, Isiolo, Kenya     27 June, 2025, 03:36 pm
Today, we held the medical clinic in the village of Shambani, a farming community. We were able to use the local school, as the kids are on a school break this week. Most of the clinic was held inside 2 classrooms, and the glasses and registration stations were located under the shade of several acacia trees. It was a beautiful day, with the sun shining and a steady breeze to keep things cooler.

Many lives were touched today, as 254 people came through the clinic, 35 of them receiving reading glasses. Typically, we try to avoid having children come for glasses, as often, it is a matter of them just wanting glasses. If 1 student gets glasses, there is usually a host of students who suddenly have “eye problems”. However, there is occasionally a student who, when tested, truly would benefit from using readers. Today was one of those times. A 12 year old girl came through, and it became very obvious that she was struggling to see well enough to read. It was so nice to see the relief on her face when we found the right strength for her, and she said, “it is very clear.”

Connections were made with 9 different people from the surrounding villages who want the local pastors to visit their communities. These connections are very important, as they mark the beginning of a future generation of believers and a church being established. And it is important to note, that a church being established has nothing to do with a building. It is simply a group of believers who gather together to worship the Lord and learn from the Bible. In many cases, that church will literally meet under a tree.

Saturday will be the final clinic of the week, and on Sunday, we will return to Nairobi. We appreciate your prayers that we finish the medical camp well. The team is getting tired, but everyone is healthy and fully involved in the work that God has allowed us to do here in Isiolo.
